Father Francis G. McGachey was born in 1973 and grew up Saint Barbara’s Parish, Muirhead where he attended Saint Barabara’s Primary School. In 1990, after completing his secondary education at Saint Ambrose High School, Coatbridge he went to study for the Priesthood at The Royal Scots College, Salamanca in Spain, where he attained a Licenciate in Dogmatic Theology (Sacraments) from the Pontifical University of Salamanca.
He was ordained to the Priesthood in 1997 in his home parish, and then served for eleven years as an assistant priest in Saint Bridget’s, Baillieston. During this time he worked as Chaplain to Saint Ambrose High School, Coatbridge for nine years and Master of Ceremonies in the Diocese of Motherwell for eight years.
In 2008 he was sent to Rome to do doctoral studies at the Benedictine Pontifical Anthaneum of Sant’Anselmo while residing at the Pontifical Scots College in the city.
On the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes 2011 he became parish priest of Saint Francis Xavier’s, Carfin.
He successfully defended and published his thesis on ‘The Theology of the Holy Spirit in Confirmation in the Church of England from the pre-Reformation times until the year 2000’ in 2014, gaining a Doctorate in Sacred Liturgy.
