Carfin Grotto, situated in the Parish of St Francis Xavier in the village of Carfin, near Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, is Scotland's National Shrine to Our Lady of Lourdes. Opened in 1922 by Monsignor Thomas Canon Taylor, the Grotto welcomes over 70,000 pilgrims each year from across the globe. The Grotto is open 365 day a year, with Daily Masses, Confession, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Novenas and Processions taking place each week during the Pilgrimage Season which runs from April to October. For a century, Scotland's National Lourdes Shrine has attracted groups from parishes, schools and church organisations from across the United Kingdom who come to experience a special place of pilgrimage, prayer and peace.
