St Therese of Lisieux in Scotland

Visit of her relics to Carfin Grotto

30 August - 1 September 2019

At the conclusion of the 2018 National Pilgrimage Mass at Carfin Grotto, Bishop Joseph Toal made the announcement that the relics of The Little Flower would make a tour of Scotland in 2019.

St. Therese’ relics visited every diocese in Scotland over a period of three weeks beginning at Carfin Grotto, where the relics were present from 30th August to 1st September 2019. Since the very early days of the Grotto, fostered by Canon Thomas Taylor - found of the Grotto, there has always been a very strong devotion to the Little Flower at Carfin Grotto. It is therefore an immensely joyous occasion to be able to welcome the relics of St Therese to our Marian Shrine.

The visit of the relics of St Therese was an amazing experience for all who took part, something which will never been seen again. Over 16,000 pilgrims visited Carfin over the three days to honour the Little Flower.

An official website and Facebook page have been launched for the visit of the relics of St Therese' relics to Scotland later this year. These will provide more details and information about the visit of the relics to both Carfin Grotto and to each of the Dioceses in Scotland where her relics will visit.

Prayer to The Little Flower

O Little Flower of Jesus

we welcome you to Scotland

and invite you to teach us your ‘Little Way’,

the way of love and childlike trust in God.

We thank God for the example

of your saintly parents, Louis and Zélie,

who put God at the centre of their family life

and we ask your intercession for the

strength, unity, peace and holiness of our families.

May we put God at the centre of our family life.

St. Thérèse you loved the priesthood,

we ask you to be a special sister to our priests,

especially in times of trial.

May your generous response to God’s call

inspire vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life.

As one who suffered much in your short life,

intercede for all who are sick and who suffer in body, mind or spirit.

Dear Little Flower, you loved the Mother of God,

ask our Mother, the Queen of Heaven,

to turn her eyes of mercy upon us with her healing smile.

Patroness of the Missions, intercede for Scotland.

Through your visit to our land,

may our nation be showered with your roses.

As missionaries of God’s love,

may we work to change the world

through simple acts of kindness

and when our mission on earth is complete,

may we enjoy love’s fulfilment in heaven.

Amen.
